The Outpost

The Outpost is situated in the remote northern part of Kruger National Park, Makuleke Contractual Park. The lodge is sitting on top of a hill surrounded by beautiful vistas of the Limpopo and Luvuvhu Rivers in South Africa, as far away as you can get from the crowds. The Outpost accommodates a maximum of 24 guests in 12 open plan, en-suite luxury spaces cantilevered on a hill facing the Luvuvhu River. The River View Suites look out onto the River Gorge and the Bush View Suites look directly into the bushveld, under a canopy of trees. The exclusive, secluded spaces are joined to each other and the main lodge area by 500 metres Zimbabwean teak walkway. The Outpost Lodge is perfect for adventure guests. It is an immersive experience into everything the area has to offer to guests, from taking nature walks to birding safaris, diversified landscapes and wildlife – some more unique than others such as the eland which is only in this part of the Kruger.
This area is rich with wildlife from plains game like zebra and wildebeest to huge herds of elephant and buffalo. Guests also get to see the eland which is unique to this park of the Kruger. The diverse landscapes will give you a unique experience every day. Imagine having morning coffee viewing the 25-million-year-old Lanner Gorge and on the same day having sundowners while having your favourite drink in the biggest fever tree forest in the southern hemisphere. The area also has thousands of years old baobab trees that are always a great tourist attraction.
The Outpost is ideal for people who want a unique accommodation - the architecture of the lodge only has one solid structure wall and the rest of the walls are remote controlled screens that can fully open up. The lodge has exclusivity when it comes to game drives too as they are one of the only 2 commercial properties in the whole 26000 Ha concession. It’s important to conserve this area for the eland especially as this is one of the only areas where you can still get wild herds roaming freely.

Birding Break
We spent a couple of days at The Outpost for a birding break. Lovely location. The rooms are set out over a valley with big views. Staff, service and facilities were excellent, especially our guide, Sam, who was extremely knowledgeable about the birds (and other wildlife) in the area .
Wonderful time away
Our reception and overall treatment was just fabulous. From reception to departure we were treated with the utmost professionalism. Definitely compliments to the chef. The rooms are spectacular and the view just simply amazing.
The Outpost impact highlights
The Makuleke Region falls in the epicentre of the Great Limpopo Park, which consists of Kruger National Park, the Gaza National Park in Mozambique and the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe. The Outpost is the result of a unique co-operation between private investors and the local community and is the first lodge built in this big region.
