Guided Safari Drive

The ZuluWaters Rhino Experience offers you the opportunity to get close and personal with one of Africa’s most iconic big game animals – the White Rhino. More than just a game drive, this experience aims to familiarise you with these amazing animals, and the dedicated efforts to protect them. Your contribution will directly enable the reserve to provide these animals with the 24- hour security surveillance and armed protection they require. A 3-hour guided game drive, interaction with anti-poaching personnel and a light wilderness picnic. This is a family-friendly safari experience.

The Rhino Experience

Here is the opportunity to see the smaller interesting elements in the bush that you would not see in a game drive vehicle.  Try your hand at animal tracking or let the guides take you back in history and show you ancient Bushman paintings and where the Zulus sharpened their spears before battle! Walks usually last from 2 to 3 hours.

Wilderness Picnic

Ride among an incredible array of game on a 2-hour horse trail through the ZuluWaters Reserve. You will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with zebra, rhino, buffalo and other ZuluWaters wildlife.

Guided Horse Trail

Head out for a morning visit to the local community, including a visit to one of the nursery schools that ZuluWaters have been supporting since 2008. Here you will have the chance to interact with the children and share with them which part of the world you are from. This will be followed by a visit to a Sangoma where you can have your reading done through the throwing of the bones. The morning will end with a traditional home visit and meal.

Local Community Experience

ZuluWaters offers 15km of the Bushmans River frontage – famous for its trophy-sized Loch Levern wild brown trout, seeded in 1886, the oldest in Sub-Saharan Africa as well as rainbows and indigenous Natal Yellow. Fly Fishing is available (catch and release) with a ranger in Lake Murray or in the Bushman’s River.

Bushmans River Fly Fishing

Zulu Waters is fortunate enough to have 378 bird species on the reserve. Interesting birds include fan-tailed grassbird, buff-streaked chat, pale-crowned cisticola, Denham’s bustard, starred robin, olive bush shrike and Narina trogon, to mention a few. ZuluWaters also has regular sightings of the rare and threatened Bearded Vulture.

Located in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountain range, ZuluWaters is a malaria-free 3000 hectare private game reserve that is home to an abundance of wildlife. With only 6 suites the award-winning and sustainable Shaka Safari Lodge offers guests a personal and intimate safari experience. The lodge features a magnificent rim flow pool and wooden sun deck overlooking outstanding views of the reserve, perfect for outdoor relaxation.
Shaka Safari Lodge comprises three Deluxe Suites and a Master Suite and an additional three Garden Suites situated in the tranquil gardens and in close proximity to the main lodge. Each suite sleeps two guests.

There are two exclusive-use options on ZuluWaters Game Reserve, with Nandi House being the larger of the two, sleeping 4 guests in two King bedrooms. The house is built on an old reservoir dating back to the 1900s and is admired for its original style and elegance, ensuring guest comfort throughout. The house features a large verandah where guests can sit and marvel at the uninterrupted views over sweeping plains and hills.

Nestled in the heart of ZuluWaters Game Reserve, Lake Cottage offers guests total seclusion and privacy. The cottage sleeps 3 guests in one King bedroom and one single.
