Please note, this activity is located off of the Bushveld Bivouac property. The Panorama Route, located in the northern regions of the Drakensberg escarpment, boasts remarkable natural wonders and breathtaking views. At the heart of this route is the Blyde Canyon, the world's largest green canyon, stretching 26km in length and plunging to a depth of 800m. The Blyde River Dam, completed in 1974 with a 71m-high wall, was constructed to irrigate fruit trees and provide additional water for nearby mines and industries. The Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve, housing some of South Africa's most stunning vistas and viewing points, is a focal point for nature enthusiasts. Known by the indigenous people as the Three Rondavels, Three Sisters, or The Chief and his Three Sisters, the landscape is characterized by these iconic formations. The Kadishi Tufa Waterfall, boasting a 200m drop, ranks as the second-highest Tufa waterfall globally. Pinnacle Rock, a weathered quartzite buttress, rises 30m above the indigenous forest in the Driekop gorge. God’s Window, marked by sheer cliffs dropping 700m, offers spectacular views of the Drakensberg mountains and the Greater Kruger National Park.

Embarking on the Panorama Route reveals more historical and natural treasures. Pilgrims Rest, a historic mining town where gold was discovered in 1873, holds tales of the gold rush era. The Graskop Gorge Lift Co provides a unique perspective of the gorge through its innovative lift and viewing points. Bourkes Luck Potholes, formed by the convergence of the Blyde and Treur Rivers, showcase cylindrical potholes created over eons by swirling whirlpools. The Echo Caves, declared a National Monument and one of the world's oldest caves, were rediscovered in 1923 by a farmer. Previously inhabited by the Pedi people, these caves extend 40km into the mountainside, featuring chambers reaching heights of 60m. The town of Hoedspruit, conveniently situated, offers easy access to all the attractions along the Panorama Route, making it a gateway to the region's natural and historical wonders.
