The Slanghoek MTB Trail is located in the Slanghoek Valley, with the mountains of the same name forming its backdrop. The trail covers a distance of 13 km, mostly on gravel road and jeep track, with some stream crossings and game sightings, offering spectacular views. The trail is not particularly difficult and is perfect for beginners and families. However, there is an additional 4 km loop with steep climbs and downhills that offer challenges and technical bits for more experienced riders. Slanghoek hosts an annual event called Mountain2Mountain MTB Classic, which offers two routes of 33 km and 63 km. This event is rated as one of the toughest races in the Western Cape due to its technical terrain comprising rocks, rivers, swamps, and sandy patches that some riders do not anticipate, given the ease of the 13 km MTB trail. Nevertheless, riders of the Slanghoek trail rate the scenery and the peace of riding through vineyards in the shadow of mountains as the most impressive aspect of the trail. The trail starts and ends at the wine cellar, where riders register before heading out. It is important to arrive during cellar hours (8 am to 5 pm during the week and Saturdays between 10 am and 1 pm). Riders under ten years need to be accompanied by an adult. It is possible to make a day of it and order a picnic basket or take along your fishing rod and bird book. For those who enjoy natural hot water springs, the Goudini Spa is located nearby. Remember to wear your helmet, and leave no trace when riding the trail.
