Birdwatchers will have a great time in the area as it is home to a variety of endemic birds, including the Cinnamon-breasted Warbler and the Karoo Eremomela, as well as large raptors such as Verreaux’s Eagle. If you're more interested in land animals, you will be able to spot animals such as the majestic gemsbok (oryx), smaller steenbok and klipspringer, baboons, and countless other small animals like mongeese, rock hyrax (dassie), and tortoises. If you're lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the aardvark, a weird and wonderful nocturnal animal that digs human-sized burrows that you may come across on the lower plains. The beautiful Cape leopard is also common in the area, but due to their small size and elusive nature, they are not a threat to humans. While most people will only see their spoor, some lucky guests may spot these elusive creatures.
