Accommodation consists of spacious, full-board beach suites, harmoniously integrated into the surrounding dunes. Each suite features elevated wooden decks, providing panoramic views of the ocean and lush coastal forest. Designed with comfort and simplicity in mind, the suites have open-air en-suite bathrooms allowing guests to immerse themselves in the beauty of their surroundings without sacrificing modern amenities.

Setting Description

Travessia Beach Lodge is set among the untouched coastal wilderness of Imhambane Province, surrounded by palm trees and golden sandy dunes that stretch down to the clear waters of the Indian Ocean. The lodge’s remote location offers a sense of seclusion, allowing guests to experience the magic of Mozambique’s coastline in privacy and serenity.

Guests can swim, snorkel and kayak in the lovely warm ocean or simply lounge on the beach with a good book. For the more adventurous, guided walks through the nearby local villages provide an opportunity to experience the vibrant culture of the region. Travessia is the place to go when you have the need to relax. Only a few lodges directly on the beach within the dunes, but with lots of green and wonderful views. The place is beautiful.

The lodge is built on the dunes along the beach, nestled between bush and palm trees and with carefully chosen spots to maximize privacy and seaviews whilst maintaining proximity of the rooms to the lounge, restaurant and the beach. The buildings are constructed using elevated wooden decks and roll-up canvas walls under a roof thatched with local makuti.

* On Water: Mozambique sports world class dive sites, with whale sharks, manta rays or dolphins being a common sight off our shores. We will gladly organise your snorkelling or diving trip or ocean experience with one of Tofo’s established dive centres. If you prefer to explore the ocean directly from our beach, there are body boards for kids and adults, an inflatable K2 and a two seater canoe to paddle out and brave the beach break. * On Foot: Walk our endless beach which you only have to share with a handful of local fishermen and occasionally the kids of the neighbouring villages. We will happily provide you with a beach picnic. Find the enormous Baobab hidden in the sea of palm trees surrounding our terrain. Pay a visit to our neighbours for the Sunday soccer match or just to say hello and possibly score an invite to their small but creatively decorated and furnished houses, most of them made of woven palm fronds. On wheels: Join us on one of our weekly shopping trips to Maxixe and browse the maze of the local market. You are unlikely to meet another tourist here. If you are interested in the broader neighbourhood, we will also gladly take you on a tour through the communities and introduce you to some of the projects we are involved in. We also recommend a day trip to the city of Inhambane, which is just 20 minutes by ferry across the lagoon from Maxixe. This in itself is an experience.

How to get there

How to get there: Travessia Beach Lodge is in the South of Mozambique, between Vilankulos and Inhambane. Daily flights depart from Johannesburg with SA Airklink to Vilankulos, and from Johannesburg via Maputo to Inhambane with LAM. Sundays and Wednesday, LAM offers flights between Johannesburg and Inhambane with a stopover in Vilanculos on some days. Contact us for transfers from Vilankulos, Inhambane, Maputo or other destinations. Arrival by car: Our turnoff is between the towns of Morrumbene and Massinga, indicated by a sign. From the EN1 to the lodge it is a 6km track through the coastal forest, partly sandy, and may require a 4x4 at certain times of the year. There is the option to park your vehicle in the local village. Contact us for further information, we gladly assist!

Minimum stays: Five nights during peak season, two nights any other time of the year unless otherwise agreed in writing. · Toddlers up to three years sleeping in a baby cot stay free. · Children of three years and older can be accommodated in an extra bed in most rooms. Cardholder & ID/Passport is required at check-in / preferably prior to arrival Credit card used for online payment to be present at check-in · Our family room Casa Tartaruga has been designed and priced for families traveling with young children. For bookings with children over the age of 12 and/or more than two adults, a food surcharge may apply. · Transfers to and from Inhambane, Vilankulos and certain lodges in the province of Inhambane can be arranged upon notice at least two weeks prior to arrival. Quoted transfer fees may be subject to reasonable changes. · Drinks and all other extras incurred at the lodge must be settled at check-out. · Check in time: 14h00 – 18h00, Check out time: 7h00 - 10h00; Should guests need to arrive/depart outside of those times, please inform us timeously as we will always try to accommodate our guests. · Travessia Beach Lodge is fully licensed and only beverages purchased at the restaurant and bar will be allowed on the premise, unless otherwise agreed upon before.
