About Roam Explorer Camp

Roam Explorer Camp, tucked away within the vast expanse of Roam Private Game Reserve in South Africa, is the perfect location for travellers seeking the ultimate wilderness camping experience. What sets Roam Explorer Camp apart is its exceptional location in the heart of the ancient and endless semi-desert landscape of the Great Karoo – characterised by the backdrop of the Swartberg Mountains, flat-topped koppies, rock-filled valleys, and dry riverbeds dotted with acacia scrub.

Accommodation at Roam Explorer Camp consists of five explorer tents, each interlinked by clear pathways and dotted around a central area with a fire pit and a dining/seating area for meals under the stars. The explorer tents can accommodate a total of 10 people in a twin-bed configuration, and are equipped with comfortable linen, soft-glow lanterns, and private wooden decks with camping chairs for relaxation.

Roam Explorer Camp is situated in Roam Private Game Reserve, a 5000-hectare expanse in the heart of the Great Karoo. This ancient semi-desert landscape, covering 400,000 square kilometres, is a geological and archaeological marvel with over a million years of human and natural history. Roam Explorer Camp offers guests the opportunity to connect with this rich history while enjoying the breathtaking natural surroundings.

During your stay, you'll be pampered by experienced guides and hosts who will serve delicious meals and share their knowledge of the Karoo. Evenings are best spent swapping stories around the campfire, embracing the true African spirit. The camp allows you to immerse yourself in this pristine wilderness while enjoying the creature comforts of home.

*Please note the following: A minimum of 2 nights and 6 paying guests are required for a booking at Roam Explorer Camp; No children under 12 years; and the camp is only open 01 September -- 30 November 2023 and 01 March -- 31 May 2024.
