Established in 1954 the Montagu Nature Garden has a rich history. In 1961, it was declared a Nature Reserve under the care of the Montagu Municipality. Since 1994, the Montagu Nature Garden Association, a non-profit organization staffed by dedicated volunteers, has been responsible for its management. Covering 12 hectares, the garden encompasses arid hillside and plain landscapes as well as lush stream habitats, boasting over 8 kilometres of gravel pathways that allow visitors to admire both the garden and its stunning natural surroundings. It features a 1.7-kilometre circular walking trail to the 'Bessiekop' summit, offering panoramic views. The garden welcomes visitors year-round from 07:30 to 17:00 daily.
