Accommodation Description

Cha Cha Metsi is a luxury tented safari camp on the water's edge of Botswana's Okavango Delta, built on raised decks overlooking a permanent lagoon within the vast NG32 concession. The camp sleeps a maximum of 16 guests across six Meru tents — four standard rooms with private en-suite shower and plunge pool, and two family rooms with a full bath and shower, plus a children's annex with two additional beds. Children of all ages are welcome. The design is a deliberate return to the 1920s golden era of safari: family heirlooms, black-and-white photographs, paraffin lamps at night, and wood-fired hot water geysers speak to a camp that is unashamedly nostalgic yet completely refined. The entire camp can be booked for private use on request. All rooms overlook the Santantadibe Channel with permanent water views year-round.

Setting Description

Etched into a century-old leadwood and knob-thorn forest on the edge of a lagoon locally known as Gama tau — "gathering place of lions" — Cha Cha Metsi sits 50km north-east of Maun in one of the largest concessions in the Okavango Delta. The surrounding habitat is a remarkable mix of wetland, mophane woodland, and open acacia savanna, producing exceptional year-round wildlife diversity. Resident elephants, leopards, and lions are regularly heard from camp and frequently sighted. Herds of buffalo, giraffe, zebra, red lechwe, and hippo are near-daily occurrences. The lagoon in front of camp pulses with African jacanas, pygmy geese, and little bee-eaters, while hippos and the occasional elephant wade through the shallows. Game drives head out to Lion Island through stands of leadwood and jackalberry, while mokoro trips on the Santantadibe River offer a slower, more intimate immersion into the Delta's waterways.

What We Love

-Six luxury Meru tents with permanent lagoon views and wood-fired hot water — classic Delta atmosphere done properly

-Two family rooms sleeping four, with children's annex — one of the few Delta camps genuinely welcoming children of all ages

-Horseback safaris in partnership with Ride Botswana — an exceptional way to encounter big game

-Mokoro trips on the Santantadibe River led by local community pollers — year-round, thanks to the permanent lagoon

-A resident population of elephants, lions, and leopards — regularly heard from camp and frequently spotted on drives

-Camp cuisine drawing on a menu inspired by African origins, showcasing Botswana beef and local vegetarian dishes

-The entire camp can be privately booked — ideal for exclusive-use family or group safaris

-Accessible by helicopter (20 minutes) or open land rover from Maun — the journey in sets the tone
