Accommodation Description

The campsite at Khwai offers generously spaced sites beneath native trees, set alongside the Khwai River floodplain on the fringe of the wilderness. Each camping bay is equipped with a cold-water tap, a braai stand for self-catering, and a refuse bin. Shared ablution facilities (toilets and showers) are central to the site, delivering essential comforts while maintaining a true bush experience. The setting is unfenced, and wildlife moves freely through the area - campers are immersed in nature’s rhythms rather than isolated from them. The absence of lodge-style accommodation means the focus is on the camping process itself: bring your own tent (or caravan), enjoy fires under the stars and the sounds of hippos, elephants or lions as the background soundtrack. It’s ideal for self-drivers and nature-lovers who value authentic bush camping over luxury glamping.

Setting Description

Situated in the Khwai Community Concession on the eastern edge of the Okavango Delta and bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, the campsite is enveloped by wild landscapes of river channels, floodplain grasses and mopane woodlands. Wildlife congregates around the permanent Khwai River water, meaning campers often witness elephants crossing, hippos in the shallows and lions on dawn patrol. With few structures and limited infrastructure, the experience appeals to travellers seeking quiet nights, open skies and a genuine connection to the wilderness. The location also allows access to self-drives or guided game-viewing in this rich wildlife zone, as well as local village visits in the Khwai community. Daylight shows and night-time serenades - the call of hyenas, the splash of hippos, become part of the stay. Campsite guests should be prepared for nature-first conditions: no luxury suites, but a pure bush encounter.
