Macaneta is a tranquil coastal destination located approximately 35 kilometres north of Maputo, Mozambique's capital. Situated on a narrow peninsula between the Indian Ocean and the Incomati River, it offers a serene escape with its pristine beaches and natural surroundings.
Macaneta is renowned for its expansive, dune-fringed beaches that stretch for miles. The area remains relatively undeveloped, providing visitors with a peaceful environment to relax and enjoy nature. However, swimmers should exercise caution, as the ocean can have strong currents and deep waters close to shore.
Access to Macaneta has improved with the construction of a bridge over the Incomati River, replacing the previous ferry system. This development has made it easier for travellers to reach the peninsula by car. Despite this, some roads within the area may still be sandy or unpaved, so a suitable vehicle is recommended.

How to get there
From Maputo International Airport:
1. Exit the Airport. Depart from Maputo International Airport and head north on Avenida Acordos de Lusaka.
2. Join N1 Highway. Merge onto the N1 highway heading north towards Marracuen.
3. Turn Towards Macaneta: After approximately 30 km, take the exit towards Marracuene/Macaneta.
4. Cross the Bridge. Continue through Marracuene and cross the bridge over the Incomati River to reach the Macaneta Peninsula.
5. Follow Local Roads. Once on the peninsula, follow local roads and signage to reach Macaneta Casa Vista Lodge.
