Beautifully built on either side of the curving Great Fish River in the Eastern Cape, Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is a spectacular escape offering a scenic landscape rich in flora and fauna. The most remote of four villas, located in the west of the reserve, Uplands Homestead offers guests a family-friendly, exclusive safari experience with heritage and charm.
Built in the early 1900s, the original farmhouse has been lovingly restored to ensure its warmth and character shine through. There are three suites with private verandahs and en-suite bathrooms, and a spacious kitchen considered the homestead’s heart and soul – where meals are created to be shared by friends and family under the African sky.
Known for the best guiding, understated luxury and an abundance of animals and wildlife that call the reserve home, Kwandwe Private Game Reserve offers a range of safari activities and accommodation options to curate the ultimate safari. The scenery surrounding Uplands Homestead is the making of childhood dreams, where manicured gardens contrast with the African wilderness beyond.
Take control of your days with a private safari vehicle, ranger and tracker, and enjoy daily game drives, nature walks, big game walking safaris (tracking white rhinos, black rhinos, elephants and buffalo on foot) and fishing. Back at the homestead, there is a full-size swimming pool and gazebo set amongst rolling lawns, perfect for a spot of afternoon R&R.
We just finished four nights at Uplands Homestead. It was a magical family experience that we’ll never forget. The staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. Under the careful supervision of our ranger, Brendon, and tracker, Dennis, we had the most amazing game experiences, including seeing all of the big five during one of our 2-hour drives.

We were so lucky to stay at the Kwandwe Uplands Homestead. It is an oasis in the middle of the reserve. For 4 days we were spoiled with delicious food, caring service, and a great safari ranger (Brendan) and tracker (Dennis). The home is lovely inside and out.
