The Old Rectory impact highlights

The Old Rectory has a long history that dates back to 1777. It was first built to house troops who oversaw the storage and transportation of timber by the Dutch East India Company (VOC). As the oldest surviving building in Plettenberg Bay, it is of great historical importance and is closely tied to the Garden Route's past. Furthermore, it is acknowledged as a National Monument and is an invaluable element of the region's cultural heritage. The Old Rectory is partnered with Plett Toursim who are involved in many different community and conservation projects. The Old Rectory Hotel is on full solar, and sustainability efforts include donated food waste to farmers in the area. They are also associated with a company called Eden Bio Fuel which collects all of the hotel's used oil and uses it to create a high-quality, certified Bio Diesel, ideal for use in any diesel-driven vehicle or machinery. The hotel donates all linen, gowns, slippers, etc. that have been removed from their stock to a local children’s home and they then turn it into clothes, blankets, etc. that they need.
