Nambu Camp offers a full-board safari experience in the Big 5 Olifants West Nature Reserve, within the Greater Kruger region. With a rich history spanning nearly 40 years in the Drinkwater family, Nambu captures the essence of its surroundings, named after the local word for 'river.' Nambu Camp features just six safari-style chalets, including two luxury and four standard options. We had the best safari experience at Nambu Camp! The lodge was beautiful and the rooms were very comfortable. The camp is small and personable with excellent food, incredible game drives, and the most friendly staff.
Olifants West Nature Reserve, Hoedspruit, 1380
From O.R. Tambo International Airport:
Take the R21/Boksburg motorway and then the N12 toward Witbank/eMalahleni;
The N12 merges with the N4. Continue on the N4, through Middelburg;
At the R33 turnoff, turns towards Belfast.
In Belfast, follow the signs to Dullstroom (R540).
Travel through Dullstroom toward Lydenburg / Mashishing on the R540, and continue to Ohrigstad (R36).
At Ohrigstad, follow the road to Hoedspruit (R527).
From here, the road leads from the Highveld down to the Lowveld as you descend the escarpment.
From Hoedspruit:
Entering Hoedspruit, follow the R40 direction Phalaborwa;
Travel 16.2 kilometres on the R40 to reach the Balule Olifants West Gate on your right;
Turn right into the Balule boom gate.
The gate guard will ask your destination (Rome One Safari House).
Note: You will be asked to fill in a visitor’s permit and to make a payment of R50 per car and R100 per person. This nature conservation fee is for your private account.
Directly after the entrance gate:
Turn left and drive along the fence for 890 m;
The road, named Marula Road, will turn to your right;
Follow Marula Road for 6.4km until you reach a Tjunction;
Turn left and follow this rocky road down for 300 m;
Turn right and follow this soft dirt road for 600 m;
Turn right at the Rome Lodge sign;
Stay in lowest gear and keep your vehicle engine revolutions at a steady pace, follow this steep road for 400 m.
