Gorgeous place!
We had a lovely time at Parsons Hilltop. Beautiful scenery, great rooms and a relaxed time. Our guides were amazing and even helped us reach our goal of identifying 100 birds on our trip!
Parsons Hilltop offers a luxury glamping safari in Balule Nature Reserve, surrounded by the magic of the African bush and the Greater Kruger region. Surrounded by diverse wildlife and breathtaking landscapes, guests are immersed in the rhythm of the wild, with opportunities to witness unforgettable sights — from herds of elephants quenching their thirst at the river to lions calling under starlit skies.
Guests can choose between classic and luxury safari tents, each thoughtfully designed for comfort and immersion in the African bush. Luxury tents feature private viewing decks, king-size beds, en-suite bathrooms and hot tubs, while classic tents offer cosy en-suite accommodations with tasteful furnishings. Both options promise a memorable stay surrounded by nature.
Located within Balule Nature Reserve, Parsons Hilltop offers unparalleled opportunities for game viewing, including the chance to see the Big Five alongside diverse bird species and an array of smaller wildlife. The reserve offers breathtaking views of the majestic Drakensberg Mountains from its natural vantage points, creating a perfect setting for romantic sundowners.
Daily game drives in open vehicles, led by experienced ranger guides, offer close encounters with Africa's iconic wildlife. For a more immersive experience, guided bush walks provide insights into the smaller wonders of the bushveld, from animal tracks to unique plant species. Beyond the reserve, the camp arranges full-day trips to Kruger National Park and tours along the Panorama Route.

On safari, you need to be prepared for different temperatures and changing weather. The mornings can be cold and need a warm jersey, the days can be very warm and need shorts or swimming costume while at night you might need to protect your skin against mosquitos with long sleeves. Soft nature colours like khaki or beige are most suitable for your game drives and layering your clothing will keep you warmer and more flexible when the temperature rises.
Yes. The camp facilitates for each and everyone, however if you have a gluten free, lactose, vegan or other diet they need to be informed upfront in order to be able to prepare for this. Guests will receive a pre-arrival e-mail where they will be reminded to let the lodge know about possible requirements from your side.
Kruger Park is a malaria risk zone. You should be aware of the risk but it should not stop you from going to the Kruger and enjoying your African safari! Malaria is a higher risk during the wet season between October and May, with the months February to May being the peak risk period. We recommend that you consult your GP for the correct prophylactic to prevent malaria if you feel more comfortable with anti-malarial medication. Tips on how to avoid getting malaria: Cover your arms and legs as the evening approaches. Use light-coloured clothing to cover exposed skin areas - especially around the ankles. Wear long-sleeved shirts, long trousers, socks and closed shoes. Apply insect repellent to exposed skin areas every 4-6 hours.
Parsons welcomes children over the age of 12 or all ages when the camp is booked for Private Use.
Parsons Hilltop is situated within the Greater Kruger Park, in Balule Game Reserve. This entire area is unfenced and openly connected to the world-renowned Kruger National Park. This means that all (big five) animals can roam freely from the Kruger Park up to the hilltop. The lodge has regular sightings of lion and elephant and often finds tracks of leopard or hyena in the morning. They have all big five visiting on Parsons Nature Reserve.
