Copperleigh Trout Cottages is host to just two units – the two-storey Trout Lodge accommodating up to 9 guests, and the Trout Cabin which sleeps two. Each lodging features a fully-equipped kitchen for self-catering ease, open-plan living areas with an indoor fireplace, and spacious, view-drenched verandahs overlooking the dam.
Hidden in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands in South Africa, Copperleigh Trout Cottages offers an idyllic retreat for nature and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Guests can enjoy a unique farm stay with opportunities to interact with the animals such as baby lambs and goats during season.
Mavela Dam, stocked with trout, is ideal for fly fishing, swimming and kayaking, while the nearby iNhlosane Mountain offers a wonderful selection of hiking trails. An amazingly tranquil setting, conveniently situated in the Midlands Meander. The house had everything you could ask for and more - even heated beds! Feeding time on the farm was a truly unique experience as well.

Fantastic Stay
We had the most incredible stay at Copperleigh Trout Farm, this was more than we expected. Everything was exceptional from the awesome trout fishing, the majestic scenery, beautifully appointed log cabin and the fantastic hospitality received.

* From the N3 highway near the town of Howick in KZN, take the Howick/Tweedie exit and turn left to head away from Howick towards Lions River (R107).
* At the TJunction (R103), turn right. Continue straight, drive through the small town of Lions River, head over the bridge which crosses the Lions River, then look for the Dargle/Impendle (P134) road on the left hand side, and turn left. If you see Piggly Wiggly shopping area you've gone too far.
* Continue on the Dargle/Impendle road (P134) for +20km, do not turn off anywhere.
* Eventually it will become a gravel road (P130). Continue for another 7km.
* Look out for the Boston/Everglades turnoff, then turn left onto that road (P132).
* Travel another 1km and look for the 'Copperleigh Trout Cottages' signboard on your left and turn in there. Continue down the driveway.
Yes, both the cabin and lodge come with free use of a kayak.
Free access to the 10ha trout stocked Mavela Dam if using own equipment - no additional rod fees for guests. Day fishermen will be charged a fee.
Children of all ages welcome, 0-24 months old children stay free.
