Accommodation Description
Sodwana Bay Lodge has been welcoming guests since 1989, and it's easy to see why people keep coming back. Built in warm wood and thatch, the lodge sits within lush tropical greenery, 6 km from one of South Africa's most celebrated stretches of coastline. Accommodation is spread across two room types: 19 Twin/Double Ensuite rooms sleeping two, and 2 Family Ensuite units sleeping four — each with a partitioned layout featuring a king bed and two twin beds. All rooms come with air-conditioning, ceiling fans, a bar fridge, tea and coffee station, TV with selected DStv channels, and a balcony with garden views. The lodge's on-site Leatherbacks Seafood and Grill restaurant keeps guests fed from breakfast through to dinner, while the large swimming pool and poolside bar are ready for the in-between hours.
Setting Description
Sodwana Bay is one of South Africa's most extraordinary coastal destinations, sitting within the UNESCO-listed iSimangaliso Wetland Park in northern KwaZulu-Natal. The bay is world-renowned for its coral reefs, exceptional marine biodiversity, and year-round warm water temperatures that make it a top-tier scuba diving destination. The lodge lies just 6 km from the beach, backed by the world's highest vegetated sand dunes, with the surrounding bush alive with birdlife and wildlife. Between November and March, endangered leatherback and loggerhead turtles nest along the 16-km shoreline — an experience unlike anything else in South Africa. From big game fishing and whale watching to night turtle tours and reef diving, Sodwana Bay delivers an adventure-rich coastal escape with real conservation significance.
