Sungubala Eco Camp is a self-catering hideaway on a secluded mountain farm in the Northern Drakensberg Nature Reserve, overlooking the Sungubala Valley of KwaZulu Natal. The scenic surrounds, coupled with an abundance of activities and comfortable ldogigns, makes the camp the ideal spot for a nature lover’s active getaway.
Sungubala Eco Camp has various accommodation options, comprising of 16 units in total that sleep up to 42 people. The communal facilities include the boma, fire-pit, two kitchens, lounge, braai area, and swimming pool, making Sungubala Eco Camp ideal for groups and gatherings. The entire camp can also be booked out for exclusive use.
The Drakensberg Mountain Range, host to some of the highest peaks in Southern Africa, stands as one of South Africa’s most awe-inspiring natural marvels, offering a panorama of unparalleled beauty. Sungubala Eco Camp is a great base from which to explore the greater Cavern Nature Reserve and the uKhahlamba Drakensberg World Heritage Site.
Activities include mountain biking, hiking, trail running, swimming, horse riding, birding as well as other recreational activities. The Sungubala Farm is also home of the Silent Woman, a rock carving crafted in the 1950s by artist and wanderer, William Chalmers.

Absolutely loved every moment of our stay. The staff is very attentive and helpful. We enjoyed our guided hike with Mr Miya. The place is clean and everything is up to standard. Definitely coming back again. Keep up the good work!

There is a small store on the farm that is stocked with a few self-catering essentials, frozen meals, conveniences and the option of buying farm-fresh. The Sungubala Store is open by arrangement from 15h00 to 16h00 Monday to Saturday and Sunday at around 12h00. For your convenience: Ice, Frozen meals, Soup, Pasta & Rice, Charcoal and Wood.
