Accommodation Description

Forest Bird Lodge offers two secluded log hideaways – the Log Cottage and the Log Cabin – each sleeping up to four guests deep in the indigenous forest. Both units have two en-suite double bedrooms, with a mix of king and queen beds, quality linen and leafy views from every window. One bathroom in each unit includes a bath, with additional indoor showers and characterful outdoor showers tucked among the trees.

Open-plan living spaces open to covered verandas furnished with comfy seating, where you can listen to the nearby mountain stream. Each unit has a fully equipped kitchen with gas stove, fridge, microwave and all cookware and crockery needed for relaxed self-catering, plus free Wi-Fi. An indoor fireplace in the cabin and Weber braai facilities add cosy evenings after forest walks, while optional daily servicing keeps things effortless without losing the easygoing, woodland-cabin atmosphere.

Setting Description

Forest Bird Lodge lies in evergreen Magoebaskloof forest near Haenertsburg, on a private farm threaded by a mountain stream and small waterfalls. The cabins sit under tall indigenous trees, with bird calls, butterflies and samango monkeys a regular part of the scene. Short trails from your door follow the stream to falls and a forest viewpoint, while a slightly longer walk climbs to a wide valley outlook. A quiet 5 km forest road is perfect for gentle mountain-bike rides straight from the lodge.

The wider Haenertsburg and Magoebaskloof area offers superb birding with local guides, scenic drives, Debegeni Falls, Cheerio Gardens, Zwakala Brewery and a growing network of marked MTB routes. Adventure fans can add a Magoebaskloof Canopy Tour over waterfalls and the Letaba gorge, while the high-rainfall Afro-montane forest and established hiking trails are noted as malaria-free, adding peace of mind for families.
