Accommodation Description

Magoebaskloof Birders’ Cottages offers three self-catering cottages nestled in lush indigenous gardens on Dragonwyck Farm. The Robin Cottage has two bedrooms and can host up to six guests: a main bedroom, plus a mezzanine that includes a double bed and two single beds. Narina Cottage and Trogon Cottage each have one bedroom suitable for couples. Every cottage is equipped with a full kitchen (gas stove, fridge-freezer, microwave), a lounge, private bathrooms, and a private outdoor double bath tucked away in the garden. Trogon also has a small splash pool. Hot water is supplied via a wood-burning stove. Linen and towels are provided. Guests should bring their own food, drinks, and braai/charcoal. All cottages include WiFi. 

Setting Description

Situated on Dragonwyck Farm at the upper end of the Magoebaskloof Valley, the property borders the Limpopo Drakensberg escarpment. The cottages are accessed by about a 2 km dirt track (a single-track road with some steep and concreted sections) that does not require a 4×4, though steepness may challenge heavily laden sedans. Indigenous forest ravines, streams, and escarpment forest fringes define the landscape. The farm grows avocados and indigenous plants, creating habitat for many bird and animal species. Nearby are the Woodbush Forest Reserve, Swartbos Forest, and rain-shadow bushveld routes ~15 km away. Visitors can enjoy walks along forest and stream trails, use bird-hides, feeding tables, and hidden outside baths. Free WiFi adds comfort even when off-grid power weighs in via solar systems for light and fridge when the grid is down.
