Accommodation Description
The campsite at Zwakala River Retreat invites the more adventurous guest to camp on the riverbank of the Broedestroom River within the expansive farm setting. Known as Kholo’s Campsite, this self-catering site includes a kitchen facility, toilet and shower block to support your stay. Bring your own tent or caravan and enjoy the simple pleasure of river-side living under the trees, with an open braai area for evenings around the fire. The setting pulls you away from everyday demands, offering space, peace and the natural soundtrack of flowing water and forest. A high-clearance or 4×4 vehicle is required to access the site, emphasising the remote and immersive character of this camping experience.
Setting Description
On the slopes of Magoebaskloof, the campsite lies on the banks of a quiet stretch of river where mossy rocks and shady trees invite reflection and relaxation. Located 800 m from the cabins and nestled within the family farm landscape, guests at the campsite may glimpse birdlife, feel the mountain breeze and unwind far from city lights. Although rustic, the campsite is part of the broader Zwakala environment near the craft brewery venue and forest walking trails, but feels wholly secluded. Dawn light through the mist, night skies glittering with stars, and the river’s constant hush make this campsite special for those comfortable with nature and longing for a genuine outdoors experience.
What We Love
-True river-bank camping with kitchen, shower & toilet facilities on-site
-Close enough to the cabins and brewery yet deeply immersed in the wild
-Braai area and night skies ideal for groups who want nature without full ruggedness
