Accommodation Description

The four Caracal Lodge Cottages offer cosy, self-catering accommodation in a peaceful bushveld setting. Each cottage sleeps two guests and is designed for comfort and privacy, with an open-plan layout that includes a double bed, en-suite bathroom with a shower, and a well-equipped kitchenette featuring a gas stove, gas fridge/freezer and essential cookware. Lighting is provided by LED or gas lamps, giving each unit a gentle, off-grid atmosphere. The cottages open onto private verandas with outdoor seating, making them ideal for enjoying morning coffee or sundowners while watching wildlife move through the valley. Outside, each cottage includes a dedicated braai area and shaded seating spot, offering relaxed outdoor living. With simple interiors, natural textures, and uninterrupted valley views, the cottages offer a restful base for couples seeking a quiet and affordable bush escape.

Setting Description

The cottages are set across a 300-hectare private game farm in the Houtboshoek valley. Surrounded by rugged mountains and indigenous bushveld, they occupy a picturesque section of the property where wildlife frequently grazes close by. Species such as giraffe, zebra, nyala, impala and warthog roam freely and are often seen from the cottage verandas, walking trails or 4×4 routes. A clear mountain stream winds through the valley and leads to small waterfalls and natural pools, accessible by foot. The setting is tranquil, with expansive views and the feel of total wilderness, yet still easily reachable from Nelspruit/Mbombela. With minimal artificial lighting and wide open skies, evenings offer excellent stargazing and a deep sense of solitude.
