Accommodation Description
Fig Tree Lodge is a private, thatch-roofed cottage tucked into the bush and built around a large strangling fig tree covering an old ruin, giving the lodge a unique, natural character. The accommodation is designed for one couple only: there’s an open-plan double bedroom, a full bathroom, an outside shower, a dining area, and a self-catering kitchen equipped with a gas stove, gas fridge/freezer and all necessary utensils. Lighting is via LED lamps (no mains electricity), creating a rustic yet cosy atmosphere by lamplight, and a gas-lit geyser provides hot water. The small veranda and outdoor braai area offer private outdoor living under the stars. The lodge is entirely off-grid, lending a truly back-to-nature, romantic bush experience.
Setting Description
Fig Tree Lodge is located on a large 300-hectare game farm in the Houtboshoek valley of Mpumalanga, surrounded by natural grass-veld mountains and bushveld. The estate is game-fenced and hosts species such as giraffe, zebra, nyala, impala and other plains game, many of which roam free and may appear on or near the lawn. A mountain stream runs through the property, feeding waterfalls and pools amid forested slopes, making hikes or 4×4 drives possible. From the cottage, guests enjoy peace and seclusion, while still being within reach of regional transport routes. The setting blends wild bush tranquillity with the comfort of a well-managed private game farm.
