Amazing stay
Welgelegen Manor is a lovely, historic location that comes out of nowhere. Ronel and her team go out of there to make the stay hospitable and personal. Highly recommend it for families and couples. It's a heritage-perfect getaway just over an hour outside of Johannesburg.

Amazing staff. Only one night but food was perfect. The accommodation was pleasant, good quality for a bed, beautiful bathroom. The property and its location was just right for our journey. The peace and the view I won't forget. The breakfast was delicious.

Welgelegen is set in the south western part of Mpumalanga which is affectionately called Cosmos Country. This region is characterised by the open grasslands with less than ten percent woody plant cover and millions of wild Cosmos flowers that grow here in the autumn months. Many artists travel to these parts to capture the wonderful marshmallow coloured wild flowers that are scattered in the long yellow grass.
The small towns in this area supply some of the finest dairy products in the country and the best way to experience the farming communities is to stop at the various farmstalls or 'padstalls' that are scattered next to the main roads.
Located south east of Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve, just off the R23 that leaves the N3 north of Heidelberg and heads into the province of Mpumalanga, Balfour nestles in a region given over mostly to farms, game farms and bushveld.

How to get there
DIRECTIONS TO WELGELEGEN MANOR
From Johannesburg take the N3 to Heidelberg.
Take the Heidelberg/Standerton off ramp
At the Tjunction turn left and go through the stop and go. + 30Km to Balfour
At the first Balfour sign turn left and drive 4 Kms to Balfour.
Go under the railway bridge straight through town until you see DJ Motors on the left hand corner. Continue to the next 4way stop with Excel Service station on the right opposite corner and the Nigel/Devon sign on the left.
Turn left and go over the railway bridge.
At the 4 way stop turn left follow the tar road that veers to the right.
1.6km on you will see our white gates on your right.
Turn right onto the gravel road (just after the cemetery sign).
Follow the road to the white gates. Entrance to the Manor is 2kms
