Bontle Lodge provides an authentic South African safari experience, offering morning and afternoon game drives that afford guests prime opportunities to observe the pristine bushveld, diverse wildlife, and bird species. The reserve is home to the renowned Big Five alongside many other animals including antelope, eland, duiker, cheetahs, and wildebeest, ensuring a captivating encounter with nature's wonders.
Explorers can also marvel at the array of rare and elusive species, including the brown hyena, aardwolf, pangolin, and aardvark, some of which are best observed during nocturnal night drives led by experienced rangers. Bontle Lodge feels like home away from home, the location is exquisite, we enjoyed our stay and would love to return soon. The rooms had a sense of tranquillity, with the calming sound of the river flowing by. The food was mouth-watering and so much love and care was put into it.

From Johannesburg/Pretoria:
Take the N1 north out of Johannesburg/Pretoria;
Just over 120 km after Pretoria find the Kranskop toll plaza;
Take the R33 offramp at the toll plaza (keep to the lefthand lane) to Modimolle/Nylstroom;
Drive straight through Modimolle/Nylstroom on the R33 towards Vaalwater;
Drive straight through Vaalwater on the R510 towards Thabazimbi;
Follow the R510 for 24 km after leaving Vaalwater, the main gate is on your lefthand side (look out for the sign “Welgevonden Main Gate”)

Pick up at Welgevonden Main Gate is between 12:00 and 13:00.
Pick up time at the Welgevonden Main gate is at 13:00. Early / Late arrivals will incur an additional charge of R1000 per vehicle one way. Departure time from the camp to Welgevonden Main gate is 11:00 on the day of departure.
