Each chalet features indoor and outdoor showers, a bath, private terrace, fireplace, overhead fans, mosquito nets, a tea and coffee station, and Wi-Fi. The main lodge is an expansive shared space with a lounge and fireplace, indoor and outdoor dining, a viewing deck, swimming pool, traditional boma, pétanque court, and a fully equipped gym. A dedicated four-person resident team — including a personal chef and accredited ranger — takes care of all meals, daily housekeeping, laundry, and twice-daily guided game drives in a private vehicle.
Setting Description
Morala Lodge sits centrally within Welgevonden Game Reserve, one of South Africa's premier malaria-free Big Five reserves, covering over 45,000 hectares of protected Waterberg wilderness in Limpopo. The reserve forms part of the UNESCO-recognised Waterberg Biosphere Reserve and is home to lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, cheetah, hippo, and over 250 bird species. Welgevonden spans five distinct biomes — from rolling savannah and wooded hills to deep river valleys, open plains, and rocky outcrops — delivering rich and varied wildlife encounters across every game drive. The lodge's position near the open Nkonkoni Plains and the western airstrip gives guests far-reaching views across the hills and valleys of the reserve. Johannesburg is approximately 2.5 hours away by road, and 1-hour charter flights are available to the reserve's western landing strip, making Morala one of the most accessible luxury safari destinations in the country.
