About Palala River Cottages

Perfectly positioned on the banks of the Palala River in the majestic Waterberg region of the Limpopo province, Palala River Cottages offers lovers of the bush a relaxed self-catering getaway in one of the most scenic locations in the country. Spread across the private Jembisa Game Reserve, Palala River cottages are all unique and ideal for couples, families and groups of friends looking for an adventure with all the comforts of home.

Sleeping anywhere from two to 10 guests per unit, each cottage is equipped with comfortable furnishings and a wonderful sense of privacy, with gorgeous views in every direction. Guests can choose to stay in the 10-sleeper Kingfisher Cottage, the three-unit Podica Bush Camp (sleeping 6 in total), the 2-sleeper River Cottage, or the 6-sleeper Samia Lodge. All accommodations offer a large kitchen, spacious living areas, and the wonderful opportunity to game-watch from your private patio.

Palala River Cottages Setting

Palala River Cottages is located in the beautiful Jembisa Private Game Reserve in the northern area of South Africa. The reserve is known for its extensive diversity of habitats and biomes, as well as the vast and varied landscapes including savannah plains, syringa forests, riverine forests, gullies, rock faces, cliffs, flood plains and a 7km stretch of the Palala River flowing through it.

While staying at Palala River Cottages, guests will be able to experience the surrounding landscapes and extensive wildlife with a range of safari activities. From self-driving to guided game drives and bush walks, hiking and mountain biking trails, to fishing, birding or simply relaxing with a massage, guests have the freedom of choosing how they would like to spend their time at the cottages.

How to get there

*Take the N1 highway from Johannesburg /Pretoria. Turn off at the Kranskop Toll Plaza to Nylstroom/Modimolle. (Far left off ramp). Once off the N1 and at the top of the off ramp, turn left towards Modimolle/Nylstroom. Go through Nylstroom/Modimolle and continue on towards Vaalwater (± 70km). In Vaalwater turn right at the first stop street towards Melkriver. You will see the Jan Vleis sign on the right hand corner. At the next stop street continue straight and travel for ± 40km, where after you will see a dirt road marked Jembisa/Melkriver School/Lapalala. – turn left on to this road. After ± 5km turn right (on the corner there is an old Cape Dutch farm house on the right hand side). Continue on this road for about 5km. The road will bend to the right – the Jembisa gate is just after the turn on the right hand side. Go through the gate straight towards the old airstrip. Take the left road to the main lodge
