Accommodation Description
Summerhill at Summerplace Game Reserve is a contemporary bush lodge created for groups who like to gather yet still enjoy their own space. The main house features an open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge area with a fireplace and stacking doors opening onto a generous stoep. Outside, a private swimming pool and wood-fired Kol Kol hot tub sit on the deck with loungers and views across the reserve. Four freestanding cottages radiate from the central living area, together offering six bedrooms and four bathrooms. Each bedroom has a king-size bed (convertible to twins in selected rooms), high-quality cotton linen, an en-suite shower bathroom and either a kitchenette or easy access to the main kitchen. Summerhill is fully solar powered, equipped with WiFi, and serviced daily, making it easy to combine long, relaxed days at home with shared meals, fireside chats and unhurried time out exploring together the trails and game-rich plains of Summerplace Game Reserve.
Setting Description
Perched on Marula Hill within the 3 500-hectare Summerplace Game Reserve, Summerhill looks out over rolling Waterberg bushveld and distant ridgelines. The lodge feels pleasantly remote yet remains easily accessible, around two and a half hours’ drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria. Days drift between the pool deck, shaded stoep and nearby hub where you’ll find the reserve’s tennis court, lodge pool and convivial restaurant. This malaria-free corner of Limpopo is known for big skies, crisp winter mornings and dramatic summer thunderstorms. Wildlife including giraffe, zebra and antelope regularly graze close by, while over a hundred bird species reward slow coffee on the stoep. Guests have direct access to more than 160 kilometres of carefully crafted mountain-bike and running trails, self-guided walks, guided game drives and a variety of added activities, from e-bike hire and skills coaching to horse riding, night sky safaris and scenic helicopter flips year-round with unforgettable sundowner stops.
