Accommodation Description
The Sheds at Summerplace Game Reserve are three converted farm outbuildings reimagined as relaxed self-catering units, ideal for active getaways and easy weekends in the bush. Once part of the original farmyard, they now share a wide stoep that looks across lawns and acacia trees, a sociable space for coffee before a ride or a drink after sunset. Units 1 and 3 each have two bedrooms, one shared bathroom and an open-plan lounge and kitchen, comfortably sleeping up to four guests. Unit 2 is a compact studio with kitchenette and en-suite bathroom for solo travellers or couples. All bedrooms feature twin beds that can convert to king, dressed in 100% cotton linen with towels supplied. Uncapped WiFi, private parking, an outdoor fireplace, and access to board games, laundry and the central pool keep stays comfortable without losing the farmstay feel.
Setting Description
The Sheds sit within 3 500 hectares of malaria-free bushveld in the UNESCO-accredited Waterberg Biosphere, about a 2.5- to 3-hour drive from Johannesburg. Gravel farm roads lead you into a landscape of koppies, open savanna and river valleys, with frequent sightings of giraffe, roan antelope, tsessebe and plains game on guided drives or walks. Summerplace is renowned as one of South Africa’s premier mountain-biking destinations, offering over 160 km of purpose-built singletrack plus trail-running routes for all levels, with high-quality bikes and e-bikes available to hire. On slower days, guests can swim in the pool, play tennis or simply sit on the farm stoep listening to jackals and nightjars. The on-site restaurant, led by chef and chocolatier Dylan Jonsson, adds excellent breakfasts, pizzas and three-course dinners to the mix.
