Located only an hour north of Cape Town (75km) this is a place where the the rain falls less and the sun shines more. The Swartland is the gateway to the West Coast and is home to some of the best wines in the country. The climate is warm and dry, the terroirs are diverse and the landscape is breathtaking. Expect sweeping wheat fields, bright yellow canola fields, heritage vineyards, olive groves and an abundance of rich bird life. Visit some of the award winning wine farms in the area. Please note that appointments for tastings often need to be booked in advance. A great selection of Swartland wines can otherwise be found at the Wine Kollective in Riebeek Kasteel (check for wine tastings on weekends) Other wine areas close by: Voor Paardeberg, Wellington, Paarl, Stellenbosh & Franschoek. Malmesbury, Paarl, Wellington and the Riebeek Valley are all within half an hour’s drive and each of these towns have great offerings from restaurants, wine & olive tastings, leather factories, arts & crafts and much more. Visit Riebeek Kasteel for quirky shops, great restaurants and notorious gin bar at the Royal Hotel. Visit Riebeek West for The Village Market, first Saturday of every month. Tick off your bird list on the Swartland Birding Route Cycle the Riebeek Valley biking trails and stay off the beaten track by hiking the Paardeberg and seeing what our neighbors have to offer. Canoe the Berg River Marathon in July. Feast at the Fig Festival (usually 1st weekend in April) Don't miss the Olive Festival (usually 1st weekend in May) Enjoy intimate art encounters at the Solo Studios weekend in August. Let the kids enjoy the downhill dash at the Riebeek Valley Go Kart Darby in October. Important to note: Summer gets VERY hot! Wear a hat. Pack your cozzie. Suncreen is your friend! Autumn colours are very pretty. Pack a camera. Winter can get very cold and sometimes wet but the beauty of the canola fields in full flower is an experience not to be missed. Remember to wear practical shoes! Spring means pretty flowers and pollen. Bring your antihistamines. Bless you!

Important to note: we are a working farm (albeit a wine farm!) and we do love our animals! A paradise for small kids and also for adults wanting a retreat from city life. Expect large and lazy dogs, horses, chickens, peacocks, guineafowl and perhaps even the odd pig or sheep. You will most certainly be visited by the farm dogs, Appel and Koos James. If you feed and give them attention they will love it and come back for more (or never leave!) otherwise please call us and we will take them away if they become a nuisance.
