Originally a fishing village, Hout Bay has managed to preserve its blend of a working fishing harbour and a laid-back, rural vibe, despite ongoing development. Its expansive, sandy beach stretches across a bay surrounded by mountains, creating a stunning natural setting. Locals flock to the area on weekends to enjoy delicious fish and chips and catch sight of the resident Cape seals that call the harbour home.
There are three scenic routes connecting Hout Bay to Cape Town. Chapman's Peak, although a toll road, is renowned for its breathtaking views and is a must-see drive. Another option takes you over Suikerbossie Hill to Llandudno and other Atlantic beaches, all set beneath the iconic Twelve Apostles mountain range. Lastly, the road that links to the Constantia Wine Route, over Constantia Nek, offers stunning views of False Bay and leads into the picturesque Constantia Valley.

How to get there
From Cape Town International Airport:
1. Head northeast on Ring Road from the airport.
Continue on Ring Road and merge onto Airport Approach Road.
Take the ramp to Settlers Way/N2 and merge onto Settlers Way/N2.
2. Stay on the N2 for about 10.2 km.
Take exit 6 for M3/Rhodes Drive and merge onto M3.
Turn right onto Rhodes Avenue/M63, then continue on Rhodes Drive/M63.
3. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Hout Bay Main Road/M63.
At the next roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Victoria Road/M6.
Continue on Valley Road for 3.2 km, then take the 3rd exit at the next roundabout.
Turn left onto a restricted road, and your destination will be on the left.
