Die Wasbak is a self-catering holiday home on Greyton's main road, full of genuine old-world character and comfortably set up for up to six guests. The property takes its name from the original outdoor washing stand that still stands beneath an ancient pear tree in the garden - a detail that grounds the whole experience in something authentically local and historic. Inside, three bedrooms are spread across the home: two with queen-size beds and a third fitted with a single bed and a sleeper couch. Two bathrooms serve the house, one of which is en-suite. The living area is anchored by an indoor fireplace - ideal for cool Overberg evenings, and flows out to the garden and patio. The fully equipped kitchen makes self-catering easy and unhurried, while the outdoor hot tub offers the kind of end-of-day reward that earns return visits. WiFi and secure parking are also included.
Greyton is a small, well-preserved village in the Western Cape's Overberg region, sitting at the foot of the Riviersonderend Mountains about 90 minutes from Cape Town. It has a well-earned reputation as one of the region's finest weekend escapes - quiet, tree-lined streets of Cape Dutch cottages, a well-loved Saturday morning market, and a solid collection of restaurants and cafés all within easy walking distance of Die Wasbak.
The surrounding landscape is excellent for hiking and mountain biking, with the Greyton Nature Reserve offering well-marked trails through fynbos and mountain terrain. Just five minutes from the property lies Genadendal, the oldest mission station in South Africa, offering a fascinating step into the country's history. Lismore Estate Vineyards adds a wine tasting option to the agenda, while the dramatic Riviersonderend Mountains provide a striking backdrop throughout. Greyton is a destination with real range.
