Wonderful ocean retreat
Had a great time at Guppy Huys Oceanfront Bungalow, the host was extremely hospitable and the small personal touches were what made it special.
Guppy Huys Oceanfront Eco Bungalow is a private, three-bedroom self-catering retreat set along the coastline of De Kelders. Designed for guests seeking a relaxed seaside experience, the bungalow offers expansive views of Walker Bay and a comfortable setting for families or small groups. The home accommodates up to six guests across three bedrooms—two with queen-size beds and one with twin beds. The main bedroom includes an en-suite bathroom with a shower, while the second bathroom, shared by the remaining rooms, features both a bath and a shower.
The open-plan living area comprises a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances, a dining space, and a lounge with a slow-combustion fireplace. Large windows and sliding doors open onto a spacious deck, providing a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. The outdoor area includes a built-in braai, a wood-fired hot tub, and a fire pit, all set within a fenced garden planted with indigenous fynbos. Eco-conscious features such as solar power with battery backup ensure an uninterrupted stay, free from load-shedding concerns. The property is pet-friendly, welcoming well-behaved animals by prior arrangement.
Situated in the coastal village of De Kelders, Guppy Huys offers direct access to some of South Africa's most renowned whale-watching spots. The area is known for its rich marine biodiversity, including seasonal sightings of Southern Right whales. Guests can explore nearby attractions such as the Klipgat Caves, Walker Bay Nature Reserve, and the charming towns of Gansbaai and Hermanus, known for their vibrant markets, restaurants, and wine estates.
