Ida Olive Shepherd’s Cottage is a charming, rustic-luxe escape in the historic village of McGregor. Built from thick stone walls and timber beams, the cottage has been beautifully restored to retain its original character while offering modern comforts. It sleeps two guests, making it an ideal retreat for couples or solo travellers seeking a peaceful, romantic, and authentic Karoo stay. The cottage features a queen-size bed, a fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove and fridge, and an open-plan lounge area with a fireplace for winter nights. The en-suite bathroom includes a walk-in shower, and the shaded stoep is perfect for outdoor meals or reading with a view of the garden and surrounding village. Guests also enjoy access to a small plunge pool — perfect for cooling off on hot summer days.

1. Travel northeast along the N1 to Worcester.
2. In Worcester, turn right onto the R60 to Robertson.
3. In Robertson, turn off right into Reitz Street to McGregor.
4. Once crossing over the Breede River, keep left at the fork and travel on the Langverwachten Road towards McGregor.
5. Just before McGregor, turn left onto the dirt road, an extension of Langverwachten Road, towards Bonnievale and Stormsvlei.
6. The farm gate to Giddy Goat Farm and Ida Olive Cottage is on your left, 4.5 km from the Dirt and Tar Road junction in front of McGregor.
From George:
1. Travel south along the N2 from George to Stormsvlei.
2. Turn right onto the R317 and travel through Stormsvlei and Bonnievale to Robertson.
3. In Robertson, turn off left into Reitz Street to McGregor.
4. Once crossing over the Breede River, keep left at the fork and travel on the Langverwachten Road towards McGregor.
5. Just before McGregor, turn left at the Tjunction onto the dirt road, an extension of Langverwachten Road, towards Bonnievale and Stormsvlei.
6. The farm gate to Giddy Goat Farm and Ida Olive cottage is on your left, 4.5 km from the Dirt and Tar road Tjunction.
