Beautiful cozy stay

Love McBains! Beautiful location and a calming space to breathe. A river at the bottom of the property, easy access to hikes, wood-fired hot tubs on the property, cozy fireplaces, and the friendliest people.

How to get there

(Coming from Wellington): Come through Wellington’s Main Road (with the church behind you) and the road turns into Bainskloof Pass. Travel up the breathtaking pass for 15 minutes until the pass flattens out and you see a municipal sign that says BAIN’S KLOOF on your LHS and a few houses on your RHS. You will then pass an open field and up ahead in front of you, you will see the height restriction poles which dangle down overhead above the road. On your right you will see a sign that says McBains Lodge. This is the entrance to our parking area, and not the actual lodge itself. About 80m after these poles, turn right into a culdesac. Look out for high wooden fencing and our chow dog Garfunkle on arrival. (Coming from Ceres): Pass the Calabash Pub on your RHS and continue up the pass for 15 minutes. The pass starts to flatten out and there is then a “60” speed sign as you reach the summit of the pass. One of the first things that you will see is the green roof of McBains (with a white geyser on it) and then a low, dark grey wall on your LHS. Our property is the first left hand turn that you can take into a culdesac, at this low wall with an overhanging palm tree. Up ahead in front of you are the height restriction poles which dangle down overhead above the road. If you pass these poles you have gone too far.
