Accommodation Description

River Magic Cottages offers four self-catering cottages tucked along the tidal Duivenhoks River, designed for nature lovers seeking an unspoiled riverfront refuge. Each cottage is fully equipped and embraces rustic design with natural materials. Base Huis (riverfront, road access) features four bedrooms (three twins downstairs, one upper double with side beds), open-plan living/kitchen/dining, a fireplace, and a riverside entertainment deck. Deck Plek and Glory Be are accessible only by boat or ferry, each with five bedrooms, river views, open living space, and fireplaces. Back Track lies about 300 m from the river in farm veld, with three bedrooms, cozy living area, a log fireplace, and its private jetty. Every cottage enjoys satellite WiFi, direct or proximal river access, and space to relax or explore the surrounding wilderness.

Setting Description

Vermaaklikheid sits at the edge of the Duivenhoks Estuary, one of the few remaining pristine estuarine systems in South Africa, falling under the Duivenhoks Conservancy. The cottages are nestled in rural surroundings, mostly hidden among indigenous vegetation, with exclusive river frontage. Waterfrontage is unguarded, so unsupervised children require caution. The area is quiet, with no major roads intruding, and only small engines are allowed on the river. The river is about 10 km from the sea, offering calm tidal water for swimming, canoeing, or fishing. Birdlife is prolific, and walking or mountain biking along river trails or over farmland gives guests a sense of connection to the landscape. Cell reception is limited; guests are encouraged to disconnect and immerse themselves in the environment.
