Accommodation Description
Whale Huys Oceanfront Eco Villa is a fully off-grid, four-bedroom coastal home with uninterrupted views over Walker Bay. Designed for guests who value privacy, simplicity, and thoughtful detail, the house is ideal for families or small groups looking to unwind, cook, explore, and take in the wild beauty of the Cape coast.
The house sleeps eight and features four sea-facing bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and balcony. The main suite has an extra-long king bed, while the others offer queen or twin options. A large open-plan living space includes a dining area, fireplace lounge, and a cook’s kitchen that leads out to a wide, covered deck. It’s a home that encourages slow living: long meals outside, early mornings with coffee and whales, and late evenings in the wood-fired hot tub. Outside, there’s a saltwater rim-flow pool, braai area, and a small garden where dogs are welcome. Solar panels and battery backups keep the essentials running, and there’s an EV charger on-site for electric vehicles. A private gym with ocean views rounds out the offering.
Setting Description
Located along the cliffs of De Kelders near Gansbaai, Whale Huys sits directly above a stretch of coastline known for some of the best land-based whale watching in the world. Coastal paths lead directly from the house to the Klipgat Caves and into the Walker Bay Nature Reserve. The nearby towns of Stanford and Hermanus offer wine farms, kayaking, markets, and casual food spots. You can fill your days with local walks and ocean views—or head out for wine tasting and shark cage diving, all within easy reach.

De Kelders is a quiet and safe community on the Whale Coast. It is considered one of the best places in the world for land-based whale watching (Jun-Nov). The Overberg region has amazing natural beauty with an enormous variety of fynbos species and a multitude of birds and other wildlife. There are many parks and trails nearby. Walker Bay Conservancy is in walking distance and many other parks can be reached with a short drive. The marine big 5 can all be seen within 15 minutes from the Villa. Stanford, a quaint town known for its small-scale gastronomy is just 10 minutes by car, and there is easy access to the superb wineries of the Hemel en Aarde valley, Stanford Valley and Cape Agulhas.

* The area is rich in culture and things to do. Elim, a world heritage village, is 30 minutes away.
* Active adventures abound, including wilderness and beachside horseback riding (5 minutes away).
* South Africa’s shark cage diving capital, Kleinbaai, is just 10 minutes away. (In fact, you can see all of the ‘Marine Big 5’ within a 15 minute radius of the villa.)
* A number of wine estates in the area offer some of the best wines of South Africa including the Hemel en Aarde valley, the Stanford valley and the Cape Agulhas wine ward. Wine tasting can be done six days, and in some places 7 days a week.
* A local bakery/convenience store is just three blocks away for fresh baked rolls, bread, vetkoek and your basic necessities.

How to get there
Coming from Hermanus on the R43, turn RIGHT into the first entrance to De Kelders (large stone sign Gansbaai, and a smaller stone sign on the far corner for De Kelders). This is Gutherie Street, Take the first paved LEFT onto Main Road (Hoofweg). After 600 metres take the 4th RIGHT onto Botha Street. Then take the 2nd right onto Ingang Street. Whale Huys is the first driveway almost immediately on your left (number 40), just along the wooden Aframe house.
