Accommodation Description

Wolverfontein offers two beautifully restored self-catering cottages on a historic Klein Karoo farm, each combining authentic character with modern comforts. Zara Cottage, built in the 1930s, sleeps up to six across three bedrooms (king, queen and twin), with two bathrooms, an open-plan kitchen and dining space, a separate lounge, and covered stoep with built-in braai. D’Waenhuis, dating back to the late 1800s, is a retro-styled farm building designed for couples, featuring a spacious lounge with indoor fireplace, high Oregon ceilings, a double bedroom, and open-plan kitchen leading to a shaded stoep and outdoor braai. Both cottages are fully equipped with gas stoves, solar-backed Eskom power for WiFi and plug points, and come with private plunge pools. A complimentary bag of firewood per night, quality linen, and towels are included, ensuring comfort. With heritage charm, privacy, and fully self-contained spaces, Wolverfontein provides a distinctive Karoo escape.

Setting Description

Located at the foot of the Touwsberg and along the Touws River, Wolverfontein Farm dates back to 1890 and sits just off Route 62, between Barrydale and Ladismith. Guests are welcomed at the historic Moreson Manor, once a grand “Volstruis Paleis” of the ostrich feather boom, before retreating to the seclusion of their private cottages. The farm is surrounded by the rugged granite ridges of the Touwsberg Private Game Reserve, an area rich in flora, birdlife, and seasonal wildflowers. The expansive valley landscapes and dramatic skies create an atmosphere of remoteness and calm, ideal for stargazing, scenic walks, and quiet reflection. With uninterrupted views across the river valley, striking sunrises and sunsets, and abundant natural beauty, the setting invites immersion in the Klein Karoo’s raw charm. Wolverfontein offers the rare blend of peaceful isolation with easy access to small-town culture, restaurants, and farm stalls along the famed Route 62.
