Accommodation Description

Located just 70km from Port Elizabeth, Kleinrivier Mountain Escapes spans across a 3000-hectare wilderness area, sharing borders with Groendal Nature Reserve in the scenic Eastern Cape. This sanctuary offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Immerse yourself in tranquillity as you traverse pristine mountain fynbos, seek shade under riverine forests, or wander through tropical Karoo thicket. Witness the majestic thunder of kudu and marvel at the leaps of klipspringer from one boulder to another. The self-catering accommodation (including stone chalets and glamping units) features a fully equipped kitchenette, indoor seating, dining area and fireplace, along with a private bathroom. Each unit is strategically positioned to optimise the stunning views spanning across and up the Kleinrivier Valley. Kleinrivier Mountain Escapes provides all necessary linen and towels, meaning you only need to bring along your food and clothing.

Setting Description

Kleinrivier Mountain Escapes offers an idyllic retreat for hikers, birdwatchers, and those seeking a peaceful getaway in the beautiful Eastern Cape province of South Africa. The absence of the Big 5 ensures a safe environment for solo exploration along the numerous trails. The Kleinrivier gorge offers breathtaking scenery, with inviting pools to cool off during hot summer days. Visitors may encounter various wildlife such as klipspringer, kudu, impala, and wildebeest while exploring. Venturing into the remote Winterhoek mountains offers a chance to immerse oneself in the lush Karoo fauna and flora. The mountains are dotted with a diverse array of fynbos species, totalling thousands. Additionally, five species of antelope inhabit the area naturally. Reptiles, particularly the 'Bloukop koggelmanders,' dominate this arid landscape, often crossing paths with hikers along the trails.

Nice, Lovely and super comfortable

he place is magnificent. A perfect getaway from busy City life. You get to connect with nature perfectly. the sounds of the water and the birds are just amazing. The chalets are very private and so in tune with nature. the bathroom allows you to connect with nature still, a super lovely concept. The hiking trails are so lovely and very well marked, and the views in the mountains are extra lovely. Super safe environment and the staff is so friendly
