Accommodation Description
Uplands Homestead is a heritage exclusive-use villa that sleeps six adults (plus one infant) across three en-suite bedrooms. Originally built in the early 1900s and restored with care, it combines settlers’ style antiques, yellowwood chests, vintage mirrors, damask linens with modern comforts such as air-conditioning, underfloor heating, in-room safes and elegant bathrooms. Each suite has its own private veranda overlooking lawn and valley. The heart of the villa is the interactive kitchen where meals are shared, indoors in the dining room or outdoors by the veranda or boma. Indoor living areas include a lounge with fireplace, together with gardens and sweeping views that invite relaxation while maintaining privacy.
Setting Description
Set in a remote and tranquil valley in the western reaches of the reserve, Uplands Homestead sits where manicured garden meets rolling slopes dotted with hundreds of aloes, and beyond those the rugged wilderness of the Great Fish River valley stretches into the distance. It is the most secluded of Kwandwe’s exclusive-use villas, offering guests peace away from bustle. The skies are wide, the air fresh, birdcalls frequent, and wildlife present but respectfully distant until sunrise or dusk. Access is via Port Elizabeth (≈ 160 km), by scenic drive or charter, or via the reserve’s private airstrip. The environment encourages letting time slow by having meals at verandas, reading in shaded lawns, and evenings of stars around the boma and swimming pool.
