Incredible outlook on a sandstone ridge, dinosaur footprints, varied bird life, private, well appointed cottage with everything you could need. Fabulous hosts. A really lovely, peaceful break.

How to get there

* If you are coming from Bethlehem, you will turn right onto the R712 towards Clarens from the N5. * Just after the main entrance to the town you will find the turnoff to the right to Fouriesburg (R711) (If you are coming from Natal from the Golden Gate direction you will turn left into this road (R711) At this point set your trip meter to zero.) * You will pass "Oranje" Guest House, then start looking out for a sign that says 'FOURIESBURG 10KM. ' * Soon after this sign you will see a small dam (pond) on the left...keep watching for a dam on the right (about 2km later) and AS SOON as you see it slow right down. * The Tripmeter will now show approximately 26.2 Km * Our turning is just after the dam on the left hand side. The sign is on the left and says "Mafube Mountain Retreat" (If you come to a bridge over the Little Caledon River you have gone 1 km too far and must turn back) * Turn up the farm road about 400 meters. * Follow our signs to the right past a broken down schoolroom, then left between a shed and the schoolroom past a kraal and through a gate and follow the road over the dam wall and up to the curved roof chalets. It is about 3 km on the farm. * If you get lost or have any difficulty finding the place, please call me on my cell phone which is 084 668 4499. DIRECTIONS VIA FOURIESBURG FROM FICKSBURG * You will be travelling on the R26 from the direction of Ficksburg. * Just before reaching Fouriesburg you will see a road to the right which is the R711 to Clarens. * Turn right onto that road and continue for about 7 or 8 km till you cross the bridge over the Little Caledon River. * Continue towards Clarens for 1km further and our entrance is on the right hand side. * Turn right, up the farm road about 400 meters. * Follow our signs to the right past a broken down schoolroom, then left between a shed and the schoolroom past a kraal and through a gate and follow the road over the dam wall and up to the curved roof chalets.
