The Conservio Aggregate Score helps you make an informed and objective decision when booking your getaway. We are constantly analysing reviews online and algorithmically calculating the Conservio Aggregate Score. This way, you can be assured of an objective and comprehensive review score for this accommodation. We’ve summarised what guests love, what guests don’t love and an indication of who the getaway is recommended for. The result is an accurate rating from multiple sources of guest feedback.

Wild Rescue Nature Reserve offers a rare off-grid escape across 165 hectares of protected fynbos within the Cape Floral Kingdom. Guests can choose between two stone-built Cape thatched cottages perched above the Goukou River, or the Verandah Room - a private double en-suite adjacent to the education centre. The cottages are fully equipped for self-catering, with open-plan living areas, indoor fireplaces, verandah braais, and bathrooms with showers. There is no electricity in the cottages — oil lamps, candles, and gas for cooking and hot water create an authentically off-grid experience. Linen and towels are provided. The Verandah Room offers a comfortable alternative with a private entrance, indoor sitting area, work desk, and outdoor verandah. This is a conservation-first property run by a registered NPO, where overnight stays directly support wildlife rescue, rehabilitation, and fynbos restoration efforts.
Wild Rescue sits midway between Riversdale and Still Bay on South Africa's Southern Cape coast - roughly 30 minutes from each. The reserve forms part of the Hannes Zaaiman Private Nature Reserve, proclaimed in 1994, and is classified as a Critical Biodiversity Area. Its diverse habitats include Albertinia Sand Fynbos, Canca Limestone Fynbos, Eastern Ruens Shale Renosterveld, and Cape Lowland Freshwater Wetlands - all in remarkably close proximity, making it botanically exceptional. The Goukou River runs along the eastern boundary, and a perennial spring feeds a natural swimming dam. Wildlife on the reserve includes bushbuck, caracal, porcupine, Cape grysbok, and the vulnerable Cape Clawless Otter. Birdlife is equally impressive — African Fish Eagle, Spotted Eagle Owl, African Hoopoe, and Bokmakerie are regular sightings. Still Bay's Blue Flag beaches are a 30-minute drive away, offering a coastal contrast to the reserve's wild interior.
