Stayed at: Bloukrans Klein-Bewarea Guest Farm
Fabulous, peaceful
An absolute gem of a place. Very remote, and quiet and you can really find peace there. The cottage is so beautifully furnished, so much thought was applied to the authenticity of the Karoo. A fantastic host.

Stayed at: Bloukrans Klein-Bewarea Guest Farm
A mind-blowing experience
Bloukrans is even more isolated than we could have ever guessed. Perfectly furnished inside, warm bedding against the winter cold, hot water, gas stove, plenty of pots, pans, coffee kettle. Solar light and candles. Karoo books. Blissful sofa and braai facilities at the back. Amazing!
Bloukrans Klein-Bewarea Guest Farm offers a serene countryside escape, surrounded by sweeping plains and the rugged beauty of the Great Karoo. Nestled in the remote Moordenaarskaroo, this 1,000-hectare farm is a place of stillness and vast open spaces, where dramatic rock formations and the winding Buffels River shape a timeless landscape. Here, guests can disconnect from the modern world and immerse themselves in the tranquillity of nature.
Guests can stay in one of three charming, restored Karoo cottages, each offering a unique blend of simplicity and comfort. Kliphuisie, a former shepherd’s hut, embraces rustic minimalism, while Modderhuisie, built from mudbrick, reflects the warm, earthy tones of the landscape. Sinkhuis, crafted from reclaimed materials, exudes nostalgia and character. Each cottage provides an authentic retreat, deeply connected to the Karoo’s natural beauty.
Located 30 km north of Laingsburg, the farm lies in a strikingly rugged region where arid plains meet deep canyons and towering rock faces. The Buffels River, with its rare but powerful floods, carves through the terrain, exposing layers of geological history. This untamed landscape is both hauntingly desolate and breathtakingly beautiful, offering a rare sense of solitude and connection to nature.
Bloukrans Klein-Bewarea is a place to slow down and embrace the Karoo’s quiet rhythms. Guests can explore the rugged terrain, observe local wildlife, or soak in the vastness of the surroundings. Whether adventuring or unwinding, the farm offers an escape surrounded by the raw, untouched beauty of the Great Karoo.
