Kliphuis at Sneeuberg Nature Reserve impact highlights

In 2012, the Sneeuberg Nature Reserve, along with four neighbouring landowners, established the Compassberg Protected Environment (CPE), covering approximately 26,000 hectares. This initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency's Stewardship Program, designed to safeguard areas of specific natural significance and beauty through partnerships with landowners. The Compassberg Protected Environment plays a crucial role in preventing excessive development, as well as mining and drilling for oil or gas, preserving the integrity of the land. Notably, the CPE holds the distinction of being the first Protected Environment in the Eastern Cape and the second in South Africa.
