Cheetah Ridge Lodge impact highlights

Cheetah Ridge Lodge in KwaZulu-Natal, formerly known as Woodlands Farm, has evolved into a remarkable conservation success story, making a positive impact on the local environment and community. The lodge's rich history, spanning back to the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879, adds a unique layer to its conservation narrative. The property's commitment to conservation is evident in its transformation from farmland to a private game reserve, Nambiti Private Game Reserve. Rob Le Seur founded Nambiti Private Game Reserve in 2005, with a vision that extended beyond land preservation. He aimed to create a place where nature's beauty could be enjoyed comfortably and sustainably. This vision materialized in the form of Cheetah Ridge Lodge, which now stands as an unrivalled bush retreat within the reserve. The positive impact on the environment is evident in the lodge's careful integration with the surrounding landscape, constructing lodgings that blend seamlessly to ensure minimal disruption to the natural surroundings. Cheetah Ridge Lodge has also embraced sustainable practices, incorporating solar panels into their infrastructure to reduce their carbon footprint. Furthermore, the lodge actively engages with the local community by employing a majority of its staff from the nearby areas, contributing to the economic growth and well-being of the residents. The location within the Nambiti Private Game Reserve covers 10,000 hectares of pristine wilderness, offering a malaria-free sanctuary for diverse flora and fauna. The conservation efforts have resulted in the protection of 22,000 acres of undisturbed savannah, grasslands, and acacia-tree dotted thornveld. The biodiversity is evident in the variety of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, impala, rhino, and lion, creating a thriving ecosystem. Cheetah Ridge Lodge's focus on sustainable tourism ensures that generations to come can enjoy the beauty of the area while preserving its ecological balance. The lodge's journey from historic farmland to a thriving game reserve showcases the potential for sustainable tourism to contribute positively to both the environment and local communities.
