Zwakala River Retreat is an immersive self-catering getaway in the enchanting lush, mountainous area of Magoebaskloof in Limpopo. Comprising just four cottages with their own unique charm, the accommodation is discreetly situated in a secluded corner of the property, with some positioned by the river and others in proximity to the Mina’s Farm Venue and Zwakala Brewery. Both The Barn House and Honey House are equipped with electricity, but for a more rustic experience, Legodi Cottage and the Cob House are both off the grid.
The owners believe in the charm of simplicity with candlelight, lamps, hot water from a donkey boiler, and a cosy fire, fostering an atmosphere of romance, conversation, dreams, and togetherness. There are also two secluded private campsites near the river for more adventurous guests. Whether you choose to be conveniently close to Mina’s Wedding Venue and the award-winning Zwakala Brewery on-site or explore the various unique venues scattered around the farm, Zwakala River Retreat offers the ideal escape from the stresses of city life.
The Magoebaskloof region of Limpopo in South Africa is an adventure-lover's dream, where lush indigenous forests and rolling hills create the perfect setting for a rejuvenating retreat. A pristine river hugs Zwakala River Retreat, inviting you to indulge in its crystal-clear waters, renowned for being an idyllic setting for leisurely swims. We really enjoyed our stay. It was so serene and refreshing, would’ve loved to stay longer. The cabins are well furnished and the view from the cabins is out of this world! We definitely will be making a return.

Directions:
We are 5.5km on a dirt road. A 4x4 or high ground clearance car is ideal. Please follow the directions provided for the best route.
Follow R71 towards Haenertsburg from Polokwane this is about 56km pass Haenertsburg and continue straight towards Magoebaskloof. 3km outside of Haenertsburg take Cheerio Road to your left. As soon as you turn off tar road you will see signs saying Mina's Farm Venue & Zwakala Brewery & Zwakala River Retreat. Follow these signs for 5.5km till our white and stone wall farm gate with the Minas Farm Venue, Zwakala River Retreat and Zwakala Brewery signs on the walls. Turn left onto farm and continue past Brewery and on to event area. Go down short paved area. At bottom turn sharp left to get to The Honey House and Kholos campsite. To get to other accommodation go around the bottom of event area and turn left at sign that says River Cottages and Camping and River Cabins. Continue down the road and you will see the Barn House on your right. Just after this you will see turn to your right for Legodi cottage. To get to The Cob House and Zwakala Campsite and The River Cabins continue straight past Barn House, about 200m further you will see The Cob House on your left. Continue down the hill to bottom and turn left into Zwakala Campsite and turn right to The River Cabins. Cabins and Cottages will be open for you on arrival. In wet weather please call ahead for best route as roads do get slippery. PLEASE NOTE IT IS BEST TO USE THE CHEERIO ROAD AND NOT TO FOLLOW YOUR GPS DIRECTIONS if you are coming from Polokwane side.. This will take you on the shortest but worse road and is not recommended!!!
That is not necessary, a car with clearance will be fine as you will be driving on a dirt road.
The restaurant is open Fridays to Sundays 10:00am - 17:00pm. Breakfast is from 10:00am - 11:30am and lunch is until 16:00pm.
