Melozhori Private Game Reserve impact highlights

The Bhorat family started the reserve in 2008.  With no history of agriculture but a passion for conservation and wildlife, they aqcuired the overgrazed land – partly farmed and partly indigenous veld. Under expert guidance the family began their journey in rehabilitating the historic land, developing a luxury lodge, cottage and our newest Pod additions and transforming Melozhori to the majestic game reserve it is today. The reserve has since expanded to 2,300 hectares of succulent Karoo, Renosterveld and sections of Fynbos in the mountainous areas. Home to over 38 species of game, 131 species of birds and an abundance of unique fauna and flora, Melozhori is the ideal place to pause on your journey through the Garden route which is one of South Africa’s prime tourist destinations. It is a region of majestic mountains, beautiful valleys, sandy beaches, and colourful people.
