The Gaia Sanctuary Campsite is an off-grid riverside retreat on a scenic organic farm near Swellendam in the beautiful Overberg region of the Western Cape. On this working farm, you can leave your busy city life behind and enjoy a 'back-to-mother-earth' experience, reconnecting with nature and disconnecting from stress.
The retreat is home to eight off-grid campsites, all located alongside the river embankment. Guests will need to bring their own camping gear, power banks and lights, however, the firepit, braai area and campsite ablutions are close by, with a cold shower (it gets hot in summer), compost toilet and washing-up station.
The Overberg region of South Africa is a place of beautiful vistas, rolling hills and sweeping farmlands. The Gaia Sanctuary is situated on a secluded organic farm right on the banks of the Breede River. Swimmers, anglers, and canoeists can enjoy the river's benefits, while bird watching, stargazing and long walks are a must. Holiday clubs and a childminding service are also available for those who need them.
The escape is off the grid and ecologically minded, designed for guests to savour the river and mountain views. They have a vision of exciting artworks dotted across the farm, with an abundance of outdoor activities suitable for the whole family, encouraging people to connect with Mother Nature again and embody their motto: “The Gaia Sanctuary – Where Mother Earth meets your Soul".

Great little campsite, loved it there. We only stayed one night but the family really enjoyed it!

We loved our stay at Gaia as the first campers. It is a pet friendly campsite and our dog also enjoyed her stay very much! We recommend this off grid camp site right next to the Breede River for all nature lovers.
