  • Truly special location

We were made to feel exceptionally welcome. The hosts are wonderful! The chance to purchase fresh vegetables directly from the farm is just one of the reasons that made our stay so enjoyable. We had a fantastic time combining our stay with mountain bike tours through vast and breathtaking landscapes, with amazing trails. We were fortunate enough to spot some wild animals too. The location is truly special, and the accommodation feels incredibly comfortable.

Aardvark Bioreserve impact highlights

Aardvark Bioreserve is making a remarkable impact on the environment, focusing on the conservation of the Succulent Karoo Biome within the Klein Karoo. Recognized as a biodiversity hotspot, this region is home to diverse succulent plants, including species from the Mesembryanthemaceae family showcased in the conservatory. The Quartz Field, a product of over 500 million years of geological processes, is a key element in conserving the Succulent Karoo, providing a unique microhabitat. Aardvark Bioreserve actively promotes biodiversity, fostering habitats for insects, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals, with a special emphasis on the essential role of the Aardvark as an "ecosystem digger," creating burrows crucial for sheltering various animals.

The commitment of Aardvark Bioreserve extends to sustainable practices, including organic farming, freshwater dam creation, and a farm-to-table initiative. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the owners returned to South Africa, took the farm off the grid, and implemented these transformative measures. Collaborating with organizations such as WWF, Cape Nature, and the Gouritz Cluster Biosphere Reserve, Aardvark Bioreserve stands as a shining example of holistic conservation, showcasing the synergy between environmental and social sustainability. Through hosting guests, the reserve not only shares the wonders of the outdoors but also generates resources crucial for sustaining its impactful conservation efforts.
