About Coot Club Stone Cottages

Found on a spit amid a milkwood forest, and bordered by the Walker Bay Nature Reserve, Coot Club is a nature lover’s paradise tucked away below the Maanschynkop mountains. There are just four Coot Club Stone Cottages, each unique in their position, design, and configuration. Suited to families or groups of friends, these quaint cottages enjoy peace and quiet, while also being close to the Clubhouse.

The Clubhouse is a gathering point for one and all – guests from both the Boathouses and Cottages are welcome to enjoy its offerings. Breakfast is served at the Clubhouse from 8am-11am daily, and an hour before sunset, a ship’s bell is rung – a sign to come together on the jetty for sundowners. Each cottage has fully equipped kitchens for those wishing to self-cater, but if you want to sit back and relax, then make the most of the Clubhouse and its delicious food.

Coot Club Stone Cottages Setting

Located just beyond the quaint riverside village of Stanford in the Overberg region of the Western Cape, this escape promises peace and serenity. Whether guests wish to sit back, relax, and watch the birds go by, or enjoy all the activities on offer, Coot Club offers the best of both worlds. For those interested in activities, there is plenty on offer - slip into the lagoon for a refreshing paddle, or try SUPing, sailing, and kayaking.

If water-based activities aren’t of interest, embrace the exquisite natural surroundings on offer with a guided, or self-guided, nature walk, a visit to Walker Bay Beach, bird watching, or taking part in lawn games. Between July and December, don’t forget to look for southern right whales - as Walker Bay is a Marine Protected Area, they come much closer to shore.

Coot Club Stone Cottages impact highlights

Each and every Coot Club guest contributes to the ongoing conservation of the area thanks to a rate percentage donation per stay. Coot Club is also involved in their local community with educational outreach programmes, engagement and upliftment in the area.

These efforts extend to the protection and conservation of their natural surroundings. Estuaries often offer the perfect conditions for interesting ecosystems, and Klein River is no different - the lime in its soils has made for fantastic plant diversity and in turn, an aviary paradise. With more than 230 species of bird found in the area, Birdlife SA recommended the peninsula receive the highest level of protection
